MOTS-c belongs to a small and genuinely unusual category: peptides encoded not in nuclear DNA but in the mitochondrial genome. That origin is the most interesting thing about it and the part most product listings skip.

What MOTS-c is
MOTS-c stands for Mitochondrial ORF of the 12S rRNA Type-c. It is a short peptide of 16 amino acids encoded within the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal RNA gene, which places it in the class known as mitochondrial derived peptides, or MDPs. Most peptides studied in this space are nuclear-encoded; MDPs are not, and that distinction is why they are treated as their own research category.
What the literature covers
Published work concentrates on metabolic regulation, mitochondrial signalling and cellular stress response. A recurring theme is retrograde signalling, the idea that the mitochondrion communicates outward to the rest of the cell rather than simply responding to it.
Presentation
Supplied as a 10mg lyophilised vial, white cake, sealed under vacuum.
How we verify purity
Every batch is assayed by an accredited external laboratory before it is released to the catalogue. Two methods do the work: HPLC establishes purity as a percentage of total peak area, and mass spectrometry confirms the molecular weight matches the intended sequence. A purity figure without a stated method, lab and batch number tells you very little, which is why we publish all four.
Our current MOTS-c lot was independently assayed at 99.68% HPLC purity, the highest figure of the peptides currently in this catalogue.
Handling and storage
Lyophilised peptide is supplied sealed under vacuum. Keep the unopened vial cool, dry and out of direct light. Handle only in a controlled laboratory setting with appropriate protective equipment, and record the batch identifier against any work you carry out so results remain traceable to the analysis that cleared the lot.
