Glutathione is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant in mammalian cells and one of the most studied molecules in redox biology. It is also the compound where the reduced-versus-oxidised distinction matters most, and where listings most often omit it.

What glutathione is
Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine. Its function depends on the thiol group on the cysteine residue, which is what allows it to act as a reducing agent.
It exists in two states. Reduced glutathione, written GSH, is the active form. Oxidised glutathione, GSSG, is two GSH molecules joined by a disulfide bond. The ratio between them is a standard measure of cellular redox state, which is precisely why a supplier should tell you which form is in the vial. Ours is reduced L-glutathione.
What the literature covers
Published work covers redox balance, oxidative stress models, detoxification pathways and conjugation reactions. Because glutathione is endogenous and ubiquitous, much of the literature is mechanistic rather than interventional.
Presentation
Supplied as a 1500mg lyophilised vial, considerably larger than the peptides in this catalogue, reflecting the quantities used in the relevant assays. Reduced glutathione is oxidation sensitive, so an intact vacuum seal is not a cosmetic detail here.
How we verify purity
Every batch is assayed by an accredited external laboratory before it is released to the catalogue. Two methods do the work: HPLC establishes purity as a percentage of total peak area, and mass spectrometry confirms the molecular weight matches the intended sequence. A purity figure without a stated method, lab and batch number tells you very little, which is why we publish all four.
Our current lot was independently assayed at 99.70% HPLC purity.
Handling and storage
Lyophilised peptide is supplied sealed under vacuum. Keep the unopened vial cool, dry and out of direct light. Handle only in a controlled laboratory setting with appropriate protective equipment, and record the batch identifier against any work you carry out so results remain traceable to the analysis that cleared the lot.
